Feature Request: Offline map editing!

Postby mad_viii » Wed Jul 19, 2006 1:33 pm

O.K. I did search bfore posting and did not find any requests for offline editing of fuel and timing maps.

I love the ability to edit real time, however i do most of my data analysis offline and it would be great to be able to save up new tables without having to be connected to the ead unit.

I hope i did not miss the ability to do this, I just installed my unit last night, but so far i have not found a way to edit without being connected to the head unit.

I have had that request, but I'm not 100% sure it's do-able. The ECU+ reads the maps from the head unit, lets you edit them, and then writes 'em back. Where would the software get the baseline from in offline mode?

You could edit saved maps offline and then load them into the ECU+.

Well, there are a couple of options, we could have an ema editor that would read in the contents of the ema file and allow us to make changes to the values and save a new one.

Also, since there is a snapshot of the fuel and timing maps in the capture files, what about allowing us to open a copy of the fuel and timing maps so that we can revise them while looking at the log data and the snapshot maps, then you can save the revision data into an ema file that can be uploaded latter.

Ok, I've added this feature to my white board, otherwise known as the "stuff I need to do" board. I think I can envision how it would work, and it shouldn't be too tough to do.

Awsome Tom,
I can't tell you how nice it is to own a supported product!

P.S. if need some stuff to look at hit me up when you are ready, I still have my tuboxs maps saved along with a copy of a great offline editor. They just used a simple text format file along with a filechecksum embeded at the end of the file. I think the "head unit" calculate the checksum and compair it to the one in the file to make sure the file was valid.

Ok, I've got this about 90% done. Currently, it's another menu item that opens up the ECU+ head unit settings editor with a default group of settings. From there, you can load and save the settings from/to a file just like you do when it's connected. So here's the user-interface questions:

1. Should I force the user to open a file when the editor pops up, or start with a clean slate from which to import a file if desired?

2. Should I prompt for save if the user has made changes, or just allow him to toss away unsaved changes at will?

for save - FORCE
for open - IMHO not necessarily

Future beta. The 12-12-2006 code is the bug-fix version of what I've been shipping for the last year. Upcoming releases will include this offline map editing feature.
